POST OF DEPUTY TEAM LEADER PRE-SCHOOL

We seek someone who will have sound supervisory and/or management experience; will have a background in project leadership, have child care experience and excellent administrative and communication skills.

Victoria Centre is a unique community centre assisting a wide range of users from across the communities within Wellingborough. You are advised to read the accompanying information about Victoria Centre in order to gain an understanding of our purpose and our wide range of activities.

Since the Centre’s inception over 35 years ago the area of greatest development and popularity has been that to do with childcare; i.e. Preschool, Breakfast Club, two After-School Clubs, during the school holidays we run a Holiday Playscheme.

In this post you will assist on a day-to-day basis in the management of a staff team in conjunction with the Team Leader and the planning and delivery of imaginative, safe and stimulating opportunities. In her/his absence you will take over the Team Leader’s responsibilities in this area.

Essential Skills:
NVQ 3 in Childcare and EYFS
1 Year or more in a deputy or team leader experience

Job description for the post of: DEPUTY TEAM LEADER PRE-SCHOOL

Purpose: To enable the provision of quality Pre-school activities in conjunction with the Team Leader Pre-school, and to lead the activities in her/his absence.

Salary: £7.90 per hour

Hours of work: Term-time only: Mon – Fri; 25-30 hours/week

Responsible to: Team Leader Pre-school

Probationary period: 3 months

Holidays: 5.6 weeks including public holidays pro rata

DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS:


You will

 

  1. be required to work alongside the Team Leader Pre-school in her/his presence
  2. be required to deputise for the Team Leader Pre-school in her/his absence
  3. Assist in the day-to-day running of the Pre-school for 2 – 5-year olds ensuring that the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is promoted and delivered within the setting and in accordance with statutory requirements.
  4. In the absence of the Team Leader Pre-school – lead in the day-to-day running of the Pre-school ensuring that the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is promoted and delivered within the setting and in accordance with statutory requirements
  5. hold a minimum of Level 3 qualification in Childcare, with at least 2 years’ experience of working in a childcare setting, with a commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
  6. have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework including Development matters and the characteristics of effective learning. You will also need to know how to meet the Ofsted Welfare and Safeguarding Requirements. You will keep yourself up-to-date with these principles and legal requirements and help ensure that these are adhered to throughout Pre-school.
  7. work alongside the Preschool Team leader in ensuring that the policies and procedures related to Preschool are updated regularly to reflect changes in legislation and the running of the preschool.
  8. liaise with Early Years Advisers from Northamptonshire County Council
  9. be the Named Deputy for Victoria Centre Pre-school with regard to Ofsted
  10. have a key role in the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in consultation with the other members of the Pre-school Team. The whole team will contribute to the planning, monitoring, evaluation and development of the Pre-school and its environment.
  11. be key person to a group of children who attend the setting, building a relationship with the child and their parents/carer, and observing and planning the next steps in the child’s learning and development, including completing learning journeys (key worker records) and 2-year Progress Checks
  12. assist the Preschool Team leader in the day-to-day line management of Pre-school staff, volunteers, and students on placement ensuring that all are properly supervised and deployed, and that staff: children ratios (including Team Leader) and ratios of staff trained to the appropriate level are maintained.
  13. In the Team leader’s absence - arrange holiday and sickness cover for Pre-school staff, sign off holiday and sickness forms, and pass to Centre Coordinator, ensuring that staff report sickness to Centre Coordinator as well.
  14. assist in effective communication with parents including parents’ notices, dealing with fees, children’s behaviour, and late collection of children, and ensuring all accidents and incidents are reported correctly to, and signed by the parents.
  15. assist in dealing with any concerns and complaints related to Pre-school in the first instance, following policy and procedures.
  16. Assist the Preschool Team Leader – in liaising with referral agencies, keeping the Centre Manager informed.
  17. assist with holding regular meetings with Pre-school staff to deal with planning, concerns and issues, and to update staff on any changes with regard to childcare.
  18. assist in dealing effectively with the day-to-day administration including signing in and out for staff and children, registration and medical documents, completion of diary sheets, accident and incident forms, risk assessments and fee sheet
  19. assist with updating all the above documents according to regulations and changes in staff and children’s records.
  20. assist in taking fee payments, recording these in the fee sheets, summarising these in the Weekly Fee Sheet, and hand over monies to the Centre Coordinator. Follow up late payments according to the Fee Policy and keep Centre Coordinator informed
  21. in the absence of the Team Leader Pre-school – check and sign off staff hours and pass to Centre Coordinator
  22. hold an up-to-date Food Hygiene qualification and assist in promoting healthy snacks, allowing children to prepare and serve, plus providing regular cooking opportunities. You will help ensure that food hygiene regulations are followed by you and the staff team during all Pre-school activities.
  23. consult with the Team Leader in regular weekly meetings or as necessary.
  24. help ensure that you, staff and volunteers in Pre-school adhere to all Pre-school Policies and Procedures and all relevant Victoria Centre Policies and Procedures, including updates.
  25. be actively involved in maintaining standards of Health and Safety, carrying out day-to-day risk assessments, fire drills and reporting damage or loss of equipment/resources, adhering to policy and procedures.
  26. maintain confidentiality at all times adhering to policy and procedures.
  27. be required to accompany children on outings and supervise outdoor play opportunities which requires you to wear appropriate outdoor clothing and, when accompanying children, to wear your badge and Hi-Viz jackets provided by the Centre.
  28. be required to attend regular supervision and appraisal sessions, to undertake any relevant training thus identified as necessary for the post, and to keep up to date with changes, including Safeguarding and Children’s Act.
  29. need to commit to and have an understanding of equality and diversity, and be able to demonstrate this throughout opportunities on a daily basis.
  30. need to comply with legislation regarding working with children, including having a DBS check as required by Ofsted.
  31. need to be flexible and able to undertake any other duties deemed necessary by Victoria Centre.
