We have an exciting opportunity at Victoria Centre for an Evening and Weekend Caretaker – Maintenance/Handyperson to join our team. The role will be working Friday Evenings and Saturday daytime with additional hours when required to which may be on special occasions a Sunday. The successful candidate will receive an hourly pay of £7.50 in addition to holiday entitlement. This role is for 08 hours’ average per week plus additional hours where required to cover in the absence of the Daytime and Evening Caretaker and Cleaner.

Duties / Requirements
  • Be responsible for preparing/clearing of rooms and setting up activities including equipment in a safe and pleasant manner according to the Centre’s instructions
  • Liaise with Centre users referring more detailed enquiries to the Admin support team
  • Share the cleaning of the Centre with Cleaner and Daytime Caretaker according to the Centre’s instructions
  • Be responsible for regular inspections of the building inside and outside
  • Undertake general maintenance, decorating and repair of the Victoria Centre building, site and equipment as directed by the Centre Manager
  • Liaise with contractors working on the premises if required
  • In the absence of the Daytime Caretaker read utilities meters weekly and keep records accordingly
  • Be responsible for the upholding of health & safety standards and procedures within
    your area of responsibility and security measures at the Centre
  • Report any damage to or misuse of the Centre and its equipment to the Centre Manager
  • Operate the stair lift for users
  • Attend regular meetings with the admin team to discuss the requirements for the bookings ahead including weekends
  • Attend any other meetings deemed necessary for the efficient coordination between maintenance staff
  • Respond to emergency situations; e.g. break-ins or fire alarm out of hours on a rota basis
  • Cover for the Daytime Caretaker and the Cleaner in his/her absence. This may mean attending twice a day
  • Adhere to all Victoria Centre Policies and Procedures, including updates
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times adhering to policy and procedures
  • Be required to attend regular supervision and appraisal sessions, to undertake any relevant training deemed as necessary for the post, and to keep up to date with changes, especially in the area of Health & Safety
  • Need to commit to and have an understanding of equality and diversity, and be able to demonstrate this throughout your work on a daily basis
  • Need to comply with legislation regarding premises providing childcare, including holding a current DBS with a tracker in place or a DBS check performed by Victoria Centre which is satisfactory
  • Need to be flexible and able to undertake any other duties deemed necessary by Victoria Centre.
